私の専門分野はメカニズムデザイン・社会的選択理論です。この分野では、人々の多様な意思をどう一つにまとめ上げるかを研究します。例えば、公共財の供給問題や選挙方式の設計問題などを研究します。この分野は近年大きな注目を集めていて、2007年にはメカニズムデザイン理論の研究者がノーベル経済学賞を受賞しました。私の最近の関心事項は、この分野の知識を紛争解決に応用することです。紛争解決のプロセスでは、当事者間の利害対立を踏まえ、みんなが納得する解決案を示すことが重要です。この方式の探求がまさに私の専門で、大きな貢献ができるのではと考えています。

    This study is related to a Condorcetian problem of information aggregation that finds a true social ordering using individual orderings, that are supposed to partly contain the truth. In this problem, we introduce a new maximum likelihood rule and analyse its performance. This rule selects an alternative that maximizes the probability of realizing individual orderings, conditional on the alternative being the top according to a true social ordering. We show that under a neutrality condition of alternatives, the probability that our rule selects the true top alternative is higher than that of any other rule.

    私の本年度の研究では，いかなる経済環境でMolin(1986)によるピボタルメカニズムの特徴付けが成り立つかを考察した．いま，人々の選好を反映して公共的な意思決定を行う問題を考える．ここで，メカニズムとは，人々の選好に基づき，実行するプロジェクトを選び取る仕組みのことをいう．Moulin (1986)は，人々の持ちうる選好の候補（ドメイン）を全く制限しないならば，Clarke(1971)のピボタルメカニズムがフリーライド排除性とその他の望ましい性質を満たす唯一のメカニズムとなることを示した．しかしながら，Moulin (1986)が用いた「ドメインを全く制限しない」という仮定は，多くの経済環境と整合的でない．例えば，いま，環境保護を訴えるプロジェクトがあったとする．このとき，人々がこのプロジェクトへ感じる価値は少なくともマイナスではないはずである．しかし，Moulin (1986)の仮定は，このプロジェクトにマイナス価値を与える選好もドメインに含んでしまうものだ．このように，現実では考えにくい選好まで考慮して分析を進めてしまうと，不必要に強い条件をメカニズムに求めることになり妥当でない．そこで，私の研究では，いかなるドメインにおいて，Moulin (1986)の特徴付けが成り立つかを分析した．私の研究では，ドメインに関する必要十分条件を提示し，この問題に完全な回答を与えた．この条件は，いかなる経済環境においてピボタルメカニズムが最も有力なメカニズムになるかを判断するのに役立つため，実用性が高いものである．
