Profile
I am studying contemporary American literature, i.e., American literature after World War I, the first "total war". My main fields of interests are William Faulkner and John Updike.
Although the methodology of my research is text-oriented and/or text-centered, I do not define the "text" in the way New Critics did: I regard the language in a text as something that generate meanings when they are put in a socio-political and historical context.
Recently I am also working on textual scholarship in a group supported by the Grand-in-Aid, with a view to establishing "reliable" texts that can a ground for evidence-based literary arguments and researches.
