This article is an exploratory single-case study that aims to clarify the sensemaking process of business failure by a entrepreneur. The article focuses on the retelling of reflective dialogue and the update of schema to explain business failure outcomes. An analysis of the verbatim record of dialogue with the researcher revealed findings on the sensemaking process of business failure. First, the role of others motivates the entrepreneur’s critical reflection and behavior to cope with the crisis. Second, the change in differentiating the intropunitive and extrapunitive impact in addition to noticing and considering external judgment. The results indicate reflective entrepreneurial practice regarding the management of negative emotions associated with the business failure. Further, the results imply the presumption of change in the entrepreneur’s judgment criteria.

人生の山場や修羅場を振り返っても、ここが踏ん張りどころだという場面がある。そのとき自分はどのように乗り切ったか。そのときの経験が、「打たれても跳ね返す力」として仕事生活において役立つことがある。これは、経営者になるような方々だけでなく、現場で働く方々や、われわれのような研究者が一人前になっていくプロセスにおいても深く関係している。 このような視点から、本論文は神戸大学大学院経営学研究科金井壽宏研究室に在籍する後期課程の院生との共同研究プロジェクトとして、レジリエンス(resilience：しなやかさ、柔軟さ)概念に着目し、文献研究を実施した研究成果である。本論文では、マルチ・レベルに行われている既存のレジリエンス研究を、個人や集団に焦点化するミクロ・レベル、組織規模の出来事に焦点化するマクロ・レベル、そして2つのレベルを統合する企業家の役割を記述したメゾ・レベルとして整理した。その結果、明らかになったことは、主として組織行動論において今後レジリエンス研究を実施していくためには、様々な困難や失敗の経験を1つのレジリエンス・プロセスとして捉えることであった。本論文を契機として、レジリエンスにかかわるテーマに関心が高まるように、ディスカッション・ペーパーをまとめさせていただいた。実践的にも、学術的にも、読者の方々に役立つ論文となれば幸いである。

The purpose of this paper is to observe Business Scenario Writing as a technique for a business conversion project. A business conversion project has three key features. First, the project is needed at a span of time in an ultra long term. Second, designers of the business system are embedded in the system as objects of design. Third, the designers are business managers, not project managers. For example, if we have to formulate a project that has ambiguous initiation and termination using a business conversion, a business conversion project cannot satisfy the condition by applying techniques of a traditional project management. However, Business Scenario Writing, as a technique for project management, satisfies the condition. Additionally, this technique has three key functions: first, it demonstrates the direction to control the flow of information; second, it confirms the building of a consensus, and third, it accumulates materials to visualize the flow of idea. This paper appraised these functions through the fieldwork I had conducted.

The purpose of this presentation is to determine the future direction of project studies through a literary review of recent Japanese academic journals, namely, Journal of the Society of Project Management, Organizational Science, Journal of Business Management, and Japanese Journal of Administrative Science. First, we set the basis of theory, approach method and analytical unit, and industry of a project as the research object and analytical concept about existing research. Second, we point out the limits of existing project studies in Japan and present future directions of the studies. Future directions are a necessity for theorization and research implementation; they include such terms as project as temporary organization, context, and similarity between analytical views and phenomena. Third, we summarize the future directions of the Scandinavian School of Project Studies to show that they are in contrast to those of project studies in Japan. Through three steps, the presentation concludes that there is a necessity for the inherent examination of the Scandinavian School of Project Studies.

"The Scandinavian School of Project Studies" has led to the development of an understanding of projects and has as its ethos, a presupposition that projects are embedded in their contexts. Centered on a critical review and a case study, this paper discusses how a project and its context relate to each other. When we attempt to analyze the relationship between projects and their contexts, some difficulties arise. One of the difficulties is that there is a danger of static dualism, or that it is hard to distinguish the project from its context. In order to avoid these difficulties, this paper focuses on the materials that are produced in a particular moment of the project, and the actions that produced these materials. This paper analyzes a film making project, initiated by a TV station. The data was gathered from eight interviews and the research participants included the manager of the contents division of the TV station, the project planner of the TV station, the project manager of the TV station, the president of the film-production company, and the producers of the film-production company. The findings that emerged from this study suggest that a "distorted relationship" exists between projects and their contexts. The two concepts, project and context, are essentially unrelated to each other; however, they are related by the material used in the project. The differential direction approach to projects outlined in this paper can be used as a way to understand the uniqueness of projects and can also serve as a theoretical aspect for increasing the profit within the management activities of organizations.
